Spring Flowers

 

In the middle of our classroom stands the tree! In the fall we count the leaves as they fall. In the Winter our branches fill with snow and Cardinals. When the spring comes our branches fill with the bright colors of the first spring flowers! I love the full look to achieve this I add a few different types of flower art! This year we have started with the Egg carton tissue paper flower. Lets get started!

Supplies Needed

• Tissue paper
• Pipe cleaners
• Egg Carton

This was a fun art center because they could make as many as they like with little help from me! I simply set out tissue paper cut in a variety of spring flower colors. Out side our classroom window is a big tree we like to study. In our science center I brought in one branch full of blooms and photos of spring trees in full bloom. I will keep the branch inside our classroom to see what color the blooms will be.

To start I had the child choose three color tissue squares and stack them on top of each other. Then squeeze the center together and wrap with a pipe cleaner. This was hard work for them, the best way I found was to have them hold the pipe cleaner in the center with one hand and wraparound with the other hand.

Next I pre cut an egg carton to form one section and then poked a hole through the bottom.

Simply pull the pipe cleaner through the hole to pull the tissue paper together and there is your flower!

When finished we added the flower to our tree, is was so fun to watch our tree bloom!

I can’t wait to add more flowers to our tree! If you would like to make a flower with a longer stem simply use a full length pipe cleaner, We did this last year for our Mothers Day Vase! For our spring bloom I wanted a lower length so we cut the pipe cleaners in half.
