Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Preschool Activities

March has always been one of my favorite months filled with color and fun. No better way to start if off than Dr.Seuss Birthday Fun! Every year I love to celebrate Dr. Seuss Birthday with our bulletin board. This year is by far my favorite, The Lorax and Cat in the Hat paper plate crafts gave our board such character!

Happy Birthday Dr.Seuss
Truffula Trees

To start I cut the foam pipes in half making four tree trunks. The I wrapped yellow tape around the pipe to give it the yellow stripes. I left a tab on some of the strips to staple the trees to the bulletin board. For the Truffula Tree tops take 6 to 8 sheets of tissue paper and stack on top of each other, I stacked dark on the bottom to light on top. Then I folded over 1″ lengths like an accordion. Then tie the pipe cleaner around the middle of the strip. On tissue at a time pull the tissue up to form a flower. I truly love the way the Trees pop out from the board!

Here are some Truffula Trees I have done in the past:

  • Orange Paint. I used Red and Yellow

First we folded the yellow paper in half then traced the child’s hand. While they painted the paper plate I cut out the hand print. Then using glue they added the “mustache” Orange pom pom nose and eyes.

On the same folded yellow piece of paper the child cut out a half circle and then cut lines across the rounded edge for “eyebrows”.

We started by drawing the face, I let the children use any color they wanted. Looking closely at the cover of The Cat in the Hat to see the shape of his eyes, mouth and eyebrows. Some choose to give their Cat a black button nose. They gave their cat “fur” by painting around the face. To finish I let them paint their hat any way they wanted!
