Art and Activities for preschoolers: Decorate your room with Watercolor Window Leaves, Paper Bag Fall Trees and Pine Cone Turkeys!

Inside our Classroom

The Library Center becomes our Wampanoag Village.  A cardboard box canoe and paper tepee on the wall to color. On a smaller scale paper plates cut in half make the perfect Tepees. Toilet paper rolls cut in half for canoes. I love to see hoe the village changes everyday!

Hand print Turkey Feathers

Supplies Needed:

  • fingerpaints
  • large sheet white paper

On the day we made our “feathers” I had the Frogs finger paint a fall tree, then when their hands were full of color I had them stamp as many hand prints as possible. While they were working I asked what they were thankful for, truly loved their answers!

Watercolor and Glue Window Leaf Art

Supplies Needed:

  • Liquid Watercolors
  • Glue
  • Watercolor paper
  • paint brush or dropper
  • straw (if you want to blow the colors around)
  • Leaf shape colored construction paper

This is a easy activity I simply set out the paints and glue and let them go!

When they are finished they set the leaf cut out on top and use their finger to push gently around the edge.

When they are dry cut out and hang in the window!

Pine Cone Turkey

Supplies Needed:

  • pine cone
  • feathers
  • red / orange felt (beak and waddle)
  • google eyes
  • glue
  • foam fall shape (for a base)

Due to the age of my Frogs I cut out the red felt waddle and orange triangle beak. During a fall walk we collected some pine cones, washed them. I added some foam pumpkin shapes for the base so I could add their names. Due to the amount of glue my Frogs used these Turkeys took a few days to dry out.

Paper Bag Fall Tree

Supplies Needed:

  • tissue paper fall colors
  • glue
  • paper bag

A Fall favorite I love to do this every year! You could change the color of the tissue to create an Apple Tree or spring bloom. I love the way they decorate our windowsills! Start by cutting 6 lined 2 – 3″ long at the top of a folded paper bag. Open the bag then squeeze the middle and twist. Add small squares of tissue paper for your fall leaves!
