I started by making our black rice. Decide how much rice you need. It can be white or brown rice. I used about 2 cups of brown rice. Add to you plastic bag along with black food coloring a small amount of water or vinegar, set aside to dry.

 

 

 

 

I used a small amount of tape to the bottom of the paper plate so it would not move around while they were painting. After they have finished painting add the glue to the center and sprinkle with the black rice. In the past I have used Black beans, black buttons and real sunflower seeds. Make it your own!

 

 

 

 

 

After your plate has dried cut out to make your sunflower. To save on time I cut it out. In an ideal world it would be fun for them to cut it out! I cut diagonally to the outside edge of the center circle of the plate to form triangles.
