This was an easy and fun way to work on Name Recognition, letters and the five senses!

Supplies needed:

  • Jello in different flavors
  • Glue
  • old spice container or bowl and spoon
  • white card stock

I started by using a simple print shop program to write their names on white card stock. The jello gets heavy when added to the glue so you need a sturdy paper to write on.

Next, I had the children start by tracing the letters of their name with their finger, then gave them the glue to trace.

After they were finished with the glue I showed them our different smelling sand. We talked about jello and it’s different forms,what it’s like as a sand and when you cook it. They studied each one smelling them and then sprinkling them onto the glue. As you can see they really liked to sprinkle!

When they were done we lifted the paper up and slid the jello into a bowl, which I saved and used to refill the jars.

It was great to see their faces as we reviled their name!

Each child examined their name, the way it smelled and how the jello (sand) changed color wet add to the wet glue!

We let ours set to dry and again the children noticed how the colors changed when dried! Great Fun project and made our room smell yummy!!
