Spring Tree / Nest Bulletin Board

Spring Tree / Nest Bulletin Board

This has to be one of my favorite Spring crafts to accompany the classic book Nest by Jorey Hurley We started with our paper plate nest filled with eggs or babies. Then finished with the Foot Print mama Robin. To help the children find their nest and mama I added a worm with their name to the edge of the nest. I love to hear them explain to their parents about their nest, if their eggs hatched or not.

Paper Plate Robins Nest

All year long I collect and save different types of packing to use for this one craft. I am a firm believer in giving as many choices as possible, this way every piece is truly their own vision. Spring Preschool Bulletin Board Bird Nest art suppliesSupplies Needed:
  • packing supplies
  • paper plate cut in half
  • pom poms blue / brown
  • orange / black paper
  • tiny eyes
  • glue
Start by cutting the paper plate in half. I use a small plate to fit all ten on the board any size will work. I also cut small triangles out of the black and orange paper for baby beaks. I give to option of blue pom poms for the eggs or brown for the hatched babies.   Spring Preschool Bulletin Board Bird Nest art supplies Spring Preschool Bulletin Board Bird Nest art center set up               At our Science Center I set up real nest and photos!

My favorite part of any craft is to set up all the tools and they sit back and watch as they create. Spring Preschool Bulletin Board Bird Nest                     Spring Preschool Bulletin Board Bird Nest art nest building Preschool Letter U art and Activities nest building

Foot Print Robin

The footprint Robin is fun and easy:

Supplies Needed:

  • brown paint
  • large eye
  • glue
  • yellow paper
  • orange / red / black / brown marker
As always I set our art center up with the markers, glue and yellow paper cut into triangles for the birds beak. First we painted their foot with the brown paint, fun in itself. Then they took their foot print to the art table and gave their Robin a belly and legs with the markers and eye and beak with glue. This year I had one little one who could not take the tickle of the paint on her foot so we traced her foot instead.   Spring Preschool Bulletin Board foot print Robin work 2 Spring Preschool Bulletin Board foot print Robin work 1 Spring Preschool Bulletin Board foot print Robin non paint Spring Preschool Bulletin Board foot print Robin art Spring Preschool Bulletin Board foot print Robin glue                                           To set up the bulletin board I used brown packing to make our trees, I needed more than one to fit ten families.
