Baking Soda Painted Heart

Baking Soda Painted Heart

For our Valentines Bulletin Board we started by painting our heart with Baking Soda Paint. To create the Heart I used a large white poster board and then traced out the heart shape. To go with our theme of fitting together and the letter of the week, Letter P. I cut the heart into a puzzle. I have ten students so I divided the heart into ten shapes and then cut an oval out of the center to add their photo. I am lucky that I teach at a christian preschool as so I was able to incorporate the Fruit of the Spirit into our Valentines theme!

Baking Soda Paint set up

Lets get started! After cutting out my puzzle heart pieces I wrote on the back how they fit. For example bottom left I also covered the writing with tape so the paint will not cover the writing. This helps when you are ready to assemble your heart! To set up my art center I used plastic trays for them to paint on because when they add the vinegar it gets wet. I then added Baking Soda to the cups and followed by the paint.

I started by having the children notice the shape and wonder what the shape will be when all the puzzle pieces are fit together. Then they used the dropper to drop the vinegar onto the paint, and let it go!
